Chasing The Flood.
Who started the chain of total war
To the annihilation of others breath
Alexander could have been one
It brings only glory and death

There are many who spring to mind
Many before and after
It takes a few to incite the many
Obey all orders violence thereafter

Maximus fabius armies
Battered there way through rome
Wear them down by attrition
First the skin then the bone

Hannibal crosses the Alps
Took the fight alone
Seized the opportunity at Cannae
Biggest loss of life ever known

Legions march across Europe
Smashing everything in their path
There are no winners in war
Victors face eventual wrath

Napoleon takes first strike
Wellington is there too
How many lives are lost
Fiction is not stranger than truth

Then the world is at war
All because one man died
Millions dead and dying
You couldn’t make this up if you tried

Another great loss of life
Before they dropped the bomb
Men stood up on orders to die
A bloody day at the Somme

What path is the world taking
There is no disease like war
One voice can move the earth
Come take the bolts off the door

Come chase the flood
See its deep colour red
Gendarmes and Gestapo
Sleep in the same bed

They’ll convince you into thinking
That there way is the only way
Any opposition mysteriously vanishes
On a cold wet rainy day

Must have committed suicide
To much pressure of the mind
It will all be forgotten tomorrow
The news will leave it behind

Carefree, young don’t give power
To a smooth talking stranger
Be happy grow old live life
Keep away from inherent danger

Do not listen to politicians
They never fought in any war
Never saw blood on khaki
Or felt the breath of deaths door

Take heed brothers and sisters
Throughout all the world
Listen to your parents
They’re not out of some corner curled

Lamenting mothers, sisters, wives
Wait at tear box station
Their loyal hallowed love
Has not been worth a mention

Loved ones ferried back home
Last gasp in some foreign field
Time makes this forgotten
As the creators tongue becomes stilled

Every country has a past
New life must have a future
Skeletons still rattle in the cupboard
A feeble excuse is duty

The easy targets come first
Who do they come for last
If the first ones are not stopped
The future around you will crash

Come chase the flood
See it move and flow
As it writhes and turns
Trying to let go

There’s a catchphrase in the country
Leave well and leave it alone
Don’t bake your cake and eat it
Save the best dog for the bone

A telegram enters the door
Saying the sacrifice was worth it
How many millions of souls
Never had the chance to birth it

Like a lucid body trying
To endlessly free its soul
In traumatic expression
Blown apart whole

We are alone and together
Alive tied and free
Unbound yet captive
Blind but able to see

Do not cast any vote
See what happens then
Shun the rigged booths
And the faceless men

Who changed its leader
Without a vote being cast
Now its previous leader
Has nailed his colours to the mast

Who should be tried for murder
Hung drawn and quartered
For sending the innocents
To foreign fields to be slaughtered

Now he’s out of the picture
What a wonderful paradox
Being paid by the puppeteers
For greasing their locks

Tyranny with a tie
Who orchestrated nine eleven
The same faceless pawns
Who played seven by seven

Come chase the flood
See it flash by
You’ll have to be quick
In the twinkling of an eye

Stand high on the hill
There they can count the count
There’s a new messiah approaching
With a new sermon on the mount

Strange how they all look the same
Their eyes have that empty look
They believe their words and smiles
Have convinced all of the line they took

Beware the envoy of peace
He has a brilliant disguise
You could recognize him to late
Spellbound with his truthful lies

Palestine’s losing her lands
No water for irrigation
Israel turned the tap off
Expanding the Zion nation

Love has many forms
Death is a part of love
Do not be afraid to die
When your cause is just

Allah favours the compassionate
There’s no compassion in war
Let all fight without arms
Who would be first out the door

Everyone wants the bomb
America says ya can’t have it
They’re scared it’ll be used on them
Even though others crave it

They used it on Japan
First one past the post
Dropped another for good measure
Now the pigeons are coming home to roost

Who will be next to use it
And what will be the excuse
Don’t worry about the asylums
The crazies are already loose

Come chase the flood
Lets see how many can die
Hey processed plutonium
Gets you between the eyes

Why not break with all tradition
Whose creed is the corruption of power
Who grooms the siblings with terror
Their evil lust at the midnight hour

Who wove the web of deceit
There is no more deadly the crime
To break the trusted bond of infants
Laissez faire your time will come, in time

The battle is in the heart
Corrupting the incorruptible
Who is gaining control
The good or the terrible

God is fighting the devil
Church leaders the referee
The graves tremble in anticipation
Collapsing in reality

The priests are hiding their ignorance
Down in the cold wet crypt
If proof is true of purgatory
Why are they not conscious of It

Bridges are full of fire
Congregation runs both ways
Time to voice opinions
It’s nearly the end of days

Could be this is an awful place
Where then is paradise
Who has the keys to heaven
The holder is over the bridge of sighs

First win the war in your heart
Then you will see the truth
Beyond the veil of deceit
Those who seek power are proof

The more titles one has
The less they are to be trusted
Eyes are windows of sincerity
All options have now been dusted

Come chase the flood be free
Run by its velvety side with life’s key
Sail on the river of oneness
Into the everlasting sea
