Nimbi the elephant walked a long way into town
To buy a new trunk for his friend
He walked down the path being very careful
To the elephant shop on the bend
He waited patiently in the queue
Behind an old elephant, who was very wise
He said I have come to buy a trunk for my friend
The old elephant said, that will be a nice surprise
The wise one said, how did your friend lose his trunk
Trying to pull down a very big tree Nimbi said
But he pulled to long and to hard
His trunk came off, now he cannot feed himself he has to be fed
My friend cannot pull down the leaves off the trees
That’s right the wise old elephant replied
They have some lovely new trunks in this shop you know
Some in the window, and more inside
Now it was Nimbi’s turn to go into the shop
Through the small doorway he squeezed
The shopkeeper said, what can I do for you
I would like a new trunk for my friend please
Of course said the shopkeeper, we are here to help
Now would you like large, medium or small
My friend is five years old and about five feet long
Oh! He said I’ll get him a long reach one because he’s not very tall
The shopkeeper went into the back of his store
Came back with a very big box, this is for you
Now when you get home try this trunk on your friend
When you’ve got it right stick it on with this strong glue
So Nimbi walked home to his friend in the jungle
Carrying the very big box on his back
He saw his friend being fed by the other elephants
In a clearing at the bottom of the track
All of the elephants stood round in a circle
With Nimbi and his friend in the middle, side by side
He opened the lid of the very big box
All of the elephants cheered at the shiny new trunk inside
The leader of the elephants came forward
Thanking Nimbi for walking all the way to the shop on the bend
Then he took the shiny new trunk out of the box
And tried it for size on his friend
The shopkeeper was right it was a perfect fit
The whole herd agreed it really suits you
So they got it ready held it just right
Then stuck it on perfectly with the strong glue
Now Nimbi’s friend can feed himself again
Pulling up grass, pulling down leaves with ease
He said I am not going to pull down trees anymore till I get bigger
For now I will just give them a big squeeze
So the whole herd of elephants went back deep into the jungle
With the shiny new trunk for his friend
And it was all because of the long walk Nimbi made
