Woodland Friends(Silly Grandad Rabbit)
All the little rabbits are
Running around and whispering
Granddad rabbits been trapped
Down in the clearing

He has something round his neck
He’s not breathing very good
We tried to pull it off
But its to strong made of wood

Every one rushed to the clearing
A place they don’t usually go
There are lots of traps there
The grass grows greener though

Others have been out there
And never seen again
Its forbidden to all woodland folk
Brings nothing but pain

Granddad rabbit was laid on the floor
Held down by a noose
It was tied to a piece of wood
Mazy mole was trying to dig it loose

Quick said magpie Millie
Go and tell wise old toad
So Felix fox the fastest runner
Galloped off down the road

All the group were jabbering
What’s the best way to get it off
We need someone big and strong
Minnie mouse squeaked with a cough

Hooty owl said please be quiet
We need time to think
Sit down and take a breather
Get some water to drink

Felix fox screeched to a halt
He saw Wendy weeding her garden
Granddad rabbits trapped he puffed
I really do beg your pardon

Slow down now Mr. Fox
Talk slow and easy
He’s trapped he’s trapped
Foxy stammered feeling rather queasy

The little rabbits tried to bite it through
But it’s harder than briar
Can’t be string mused toad
Must be steely wire

I know thought toad follow me
Up to my uncle’s fallen tree
There’s a toolbox under his bed
We’ll find something to set him free

So off they went to the uncles den
Search that seemed for hours
Then toady found at the bottom of the box
This is what you need snippy pliers

So Felix fox held them in his mouth
Ran back as fast as he could
Down to where all the animals were
In the clearing in the wood

Rocky rat was biting the wire
And broke one of his teeth
Its to hard he said to Freddie
I can’t bite it underneath

What’s all that noise down there
Boris bat squeaked up in the tree
I’me trying to get some sleep up here
Hanging upside downs not easy you see

Granddad rabbits caught in a trap
Right below you here
Oh said Boris bat but you know
In the daytime I don’t see very clear

Right come on then said felix
Wendy toad gave me these look
Now we need someone strong
Bump then the ground shook

I’me the strongest one in the forest
Bellowed Billy the wild boar
Can’t hold them with my hoofs
I’ll have to hold them between my jaws

So Billy gripped the handles
Inside his big strong teeth
Ratty put the wire in them
Now press hard Billy squeeze

I’me pressing I’me pressing
Billy grunted it’s very, very hard
Then there was a bang and a snap
The wire came in half

Hooray they all shouted
But the old rabbit didn’t move
Little Sidney started crying
And said granddads not alive

All of the woodland animals
Sat down in despair
No one spoke at all, then
They heard a voice, who’s there

Its granddad Sydney shouted he’s alive
All the woodland animals started cheering
We’ve saved him we’ve saved him
Skipping round the clearing

Then they all told granddad off
For coming to this spot
You told us never to come here
And don’t tell us you forgot

You are right he said I am sorry
There’s lots of food down here
But it’s not worth getting caught for
You’ve made that very clear

So granddad hopped back into the wood
With all his family and friends
Little Sidney rode on his back
Cos granddads his special friend

So all of the woodland animals
Keep away from the open clearing
The grass might look better there
But it’s unsafe and fearing

Boris bat said I’me glad that’s over
You lot are worse than sheep
I’ve been working all night long
Now I can get some sleep
