Weepeth all, for ones love lost
Numbness stands to count the cost
Oh! English dead at rest
Will feel so surely blessed
Embraced in tenderness
Afore they shed their battledress
Hands outstretched upon this rugged cross
How faith has taken such a blow
Youthful yearns, nay screams to know
Oh! Sorrow heaped on sorrow
Broken heart to rise the morrow
Another time doth seek to borrow
The past before it came tomorrow
Buried dark beneath the undertow
How canst thou talk of love?
Whilst death rains from above
Oh! Chaplain laid them out to die
No rhyme or reason why
Breathless in their sigh
Heavens doors are nigh
Come sailing in to guide them winged black dove
Souls rise up to break the spell
Discarding now this hallowed shell
Oh! Peace away from turmoil
Endless terror unleash their foil
Blood soaked in virgin soil
Grimacing with deaths recoil
Oh! Sweet mother into your arms they fell. | |
