Be Yourself
They groaned and bore
Same as before
The shot and shell of war

How many gassed
Years have passed
Who said it would not last

There is no plan
Over the top young man
Officers don’t give a damn

The whistled sign
Mind the mines
Walk toward the enemy line

All gone again
One thousand slain
Whitehall never felt the pain

Telegrams for mothers
Missing fathers brothers
No one ever bothers

Throw down your arms
Go back to the farm
Bear no orders to harm

If they shoot all
Who will play ball
Leaders over the wall?

Be a pacifist
Unclench your fist
Do not strike, resist

Line them up one by one
Orders to fire, gone
Was it worth it son

Rich or poor
Close the door
War no more
