Men In Green.
There’s a reward out tonight
To arrest and hang a guy
Who robs the rich and gives to the poor
It’s making the sheriff cry
How dare he steal off my friends’
Then give it all away
Call out the guard this minute
Arrest these outlaws today
They’re searching about the forest
All the sheriffs’ men
Looking for a man in green
They say his name is robin
There’s talk about it all
In the local taverns
He’s hiding in the hills they say
In the old monks cavern
There’s hell of a to do
The sheriffs not pleased at all
Says when he catches him
He’ll hang him from the castle wall
But this robin he’s a shrewd guy
He’s lived here boy and man
They say he married a local girl
By the name of Marianne
They were married by friar tuck
The monastery had him banned
So he cursed and left them all
And joined robins band
He has a band of followers
Who roam the forest at will
Their prowess is legendary
As are their longbow skills
Little john is the strongest
Five men can’t hold him down
They say he was born in the forest
A gentle giant of a man
There’s much the millers son
He’s always playing pranks
Making everyone laugh
Acting as if he’s drunk
Alan a dale can play the lute
He’s a singer of sorts
Making songs up as he strums along
Says he was self taught
Will Stutly makes good longbows
So can Gilbert and David D
The arrows are made from poplar
Longbows from the yew wood tree
The rest of the band about thirty men
Loyal to robin and their regime
Living in the heart of Sherwood
Those fleeting men in green
The sheriff calls them outlaws
Pursues them in every town
Burning homes throughout the county
In his quest to hunt them down
He puts them to the sword
If he catches one of their clan
But robin is to elusive
He knows the sheriffs plan
For he has an informant
Who listens to the sheriffs plans
She works in the castle gardens
Sends messages to robins band
He’s always one step ahead
Because of this lass the florist
She has the hots for will scarlet
Meets him down in the forest
They have a kiss and a cuddle
Then she spills the beans
She overhears the sheriff’s plans
Tells will what she’s seen
So robin lays his own trap
It is a cunning plan
Lures the sheriff away from the castle
Then sneaks in while he can
They overpower the guards
And steal the sheriffs gold
Then hightail it back to Sherwood
Leaving the trail cold
Over the next few days
The sheriffs put out a boast
He’s raised the reward for robin
It’s nailed to every post
But the merry men have been busy
Travelling the county like ghosts
Giving the gold to the needy
And those who need it most
No one will give the band away
They’re their heroes dressed in green
No matter what the sheriff takes
Robin will give it back again
This is the story of Robin Hood
Fighting tyranny with his band
It’s a true romantic tale
Told though out the land
That’s the way it has always been
Maybe legend maybe not
Would you walk through the forest
Risking all you’ve got
You can stand by the major oak
And feel their breathing space
The spirits of the green men are there
Guarding that sacred place
For robin and his bride Marianne
Were wed beneath its canopy
They pledged their love of justice
To fight for the wronged fearlessly
Sometimes in the wind
You can hear laughter of the merry band
Some say robin and Marianne
Are seen walking hand in hand
So do not be afraid
To enter the forest of Sherwood
For all who enter openly
Will be seen and understood
