There’s a paper been printed tonight
A young man tried to put things right
He was murdered doing the decent thing
Front page bulletin, really got under their skin
Wrote about a crime too convincing

Near to the bridge on main street
An old down and out, begging to eat
He’s looking for a meal, they were passing by
One knocked him down, the rest booted him around
Threw him down the bank to drown, no alibi

Laughing as they walked away
Yet someone saw what happened that day
Knew them from the other side of town
He’d seen these guys before, one worked for the law
Knew their names wrote them down

Jess reported what he had seen
Although he was only eighteen
He named the five guys in his local rag
Printing what was right, put him under the spotlight
He received threats, nailing him a gag

The local law made no arrest
So jess set out a one man protest
Said he would take it higher, the next day
Next morning he was gone, his life had barely begun
It was said both guys were black anyway

It was in broad daylight they took him
Messed him up and shook him
He was just learning to be a reporter
They gunned him down, outside of town
Threw his body in the water

There’s a moral to this article
A life on the line is enviable
To break down barriers of intimidation
For justice and truth, albeit a youth
Has set in motion, the path of realisation
