 Deep Poetry

Goodbye.
The orange sun dips slowly over the towering peaks
Mountain geese banter loudly, hailing flocks from the west
All are rallying round now, the strong, the silent, the sleek
As deep red love lies wounded in its nest
Sheltering from the world that gave it test

Corncrakes protest to the sky wanting not to be frail
But deeper cuts heal slower than the rest
A cluster of blackbirds squabble, but to no avail
As heartfelt scars need time to leave the breast
To unknowingly bring about the love so sorely wrest

Herons prance and parry using bills as their sabres
Seeing this as courtship and as timid contest
Linnets try to help alas have nothing for their labours
Deep love looks out and sees them at their best
Although some are enemies they respect the right of guest

The night will be painful long and hard of vigil
A lone kestrel hovers effortlessly as its own behest
Seeing the wounded one the truce will not instil
Habits of lifetimes at the end pursued with zest
The placid songbirds leave before magpies start to molest.

Deep love is sinking as the sun warns the day
Wise owls shriek and shout wanting to attest
The eagle’s brother is mournful needing anything to pay
For taking part of his family his talons to protest
Grips deep loves long dark feathers, his spirit released, the last bequest.
