Lost Love
The old dappled grey mare in the meadow
Glances as I rest on the fence
She muses the sun casts my shadow
In some kind of recompense

The frailness of buttercups in the breeze
Their yellow is some kind of peace
Waiting for that moment to freeze
Their pollen then goes to release

I glance down river on the towpath
The mirror of itself from the sky
Wants nor waits as it flows past
My teardrop sparkled eye

What I would give for a fleeting moment
To caress your lips once again with mine
To stop this world and its movement
Two souls suspended in time

Yet knowing you would leave me for another
For that’s your way and must be
This longing in my heart I have to smother
And let you become a fond memory

I cannot yield and let go truly yet
For love has no bounds nor realms of time
Heart of my heart I will suffer in debt
Just to hold you once again, be mine

Too soon the dawn brings its fiery glow
We part not looking back go separate ways
If there be a heaven then for certain I know
The unlocked will be locked together always
